Friedlander Misler was first formed in the spring of 1964 by Jack L. Friedlander and Stephen H. Friedlander. Initially focusing almost exclusively on commercial transactions and commercial litigation, the success of the firm soon resulted in the addition of lawyers who specialized in corporate, tax and immigration law. Subsequent practice groups have been developed such that the firm has expanded to include the representation of clients involved in asset based lending, real estate development, insurance defense, the defense of self insured businesses, employment matters, worker's compensation cases, business torts, commercial leasing, real estate financing and estate planning, including wills, trusts, and taxation. In recent years, Friedlander Misler has also developed an expertise in legal issues relating to Internet access and Internet services.

Members of the firm have always been involved in bar association activities as well as the civic, cultural, and religious life of the greater Washington community.

While initially Friedlander Misler provided legal services to local individuals and corporations, its expansion over the years has resulted in a client base which includes most of the Eastern United States. In addition to its private clients, Friedlander Misler has also represented public institutions such as counties, municipalities, transit authorities, and other regional authorities.
